Research Project Started: Digital Twin.NRW Competence Center

Our aim is to provide companies, research institutions, and educational organizations with simple, practical, and interactive access to Digital Twin technology. This is exactly what we pursue together with our project partners in the Digital Twin.NRW Competence Center.
Practice-Oriented Learning Environments for Industry, Research, and Education
A key focus of our work is the development of interactive learning stations. Here, users can directly engage with digital replicas of real components and manufacturing processes — enhanced by application-oriented scenarios and simulations. In this way, the technology is not only explained but also made hands-on and practical.
Whether manufacturing companies, research institutes, schools, or training providers — all will benefit from easier access to this central future technology.
Our Contribution to the Project
Together with our partners, we at gemineers take on core tasks in the technical implementation of the Competence Center. Our contribution includes, among others:
- Developing environments for research and industrial data management
- Connecting our Digital Twin platform to the eLearning platform and creating practical training content
- Building the digital infrastructure, from production integration to cloud deployment
With these efforts, we make a decisive contribution to establishing the Digital Twin both technically and organizationally in a sustainable way.
Building the »Digital Twin Factory«
A particular highlight is the »Digital Twin Factory«, co-developed by us—accessible both physically and virtually. Real process data from manufacturing systems will be captured, analyzed, and used for digital applications such as simulations or assistance systems. At the same time, we are developing a digital learning platform, providing access to training content and virtual facilities anytime and anywhere.
Incubators for Data Management
The project also establishes specialized incubators for data management:
At Fraunhofer IPT, an Industrial Data Management Incubator is being set up, focusing on real manufacturing processes and their digital mapping.
At the MTI of RWTH Aachen, a Research Data Management Incubator is being developed, focusing on the preparation and provision of research data.
As a partner, we at gemineers contribute our expertise in building interactive, digitally supported learning and working environments to these incubators.
Shaping the Future Together
The Competence Center follows a clear, application-oriented approach: real machine infrastructure is linked with digital models, data platforms, and virtual training environments. This creates a practical environment in which industrial processes can be mapped, understood, and further developed in real time.
In particular, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as educational institutions will gain easier access to the key technology of Digital Twins.
About the Project
The Digital Twin.NRW Competence Center is a joint project coordinated by ModuleWorks GmbH, together with partners Fraunhofer IPT, MTI of RWTH Aachen, gemineers GmbH, and Nachwuchsstiftung Maschinenbau gGmbH, supported by numerous associated partners from industry, education, and associations.
The project is funded by the European Union and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia within the EFRE/JTF Program NRW 2021–2027.

The tedious piecing together of fragmented digitalization solutions on the shopfloor is over. With gemineers, we bring together three essential building blocks – data acquisition, data processing, and data delivery – in one intuitive platform. It’s this powerful combination that makes our solution true Deep Tech.
